A certified personal trainer with special training and expertise in working with clients affected by cancer at diagnosis, through treatment, and into survivorship.
The benefits of exercise during cancer treatment include but are not limited to:
•Improved psychological and quality of life
•Improved cancer related fatigue
•Body weight and composition
•Muscle strength and endurance
•Each client receives an initial assessment to go over a detailed medical history including surgeries, treatment plans, medical clearances, and postural imbalances.
•Based off the client assessment and medical clearances, a program would be made to fit their needs that could range from Lymphatic drainage movements, manual stretching, correcting muscle imbalances, core/balance training, aerobic/anaerobic exercising, and resistance training.
•Each client would be progressed at a rate that is tolerable and comfortable. The client's surgeries and treatments will also factor in. The CES is familiar with common procedures, chemotherapy agents, side effects and contraindications to certain types of exercise. EX. a client is getting Adriamycin, they will only be allowed low activity( 15-20 beats above normal resting HR) for 24-48 hrs after infusion.
•Lab values and other contraindications will also be evaluated to decide if the client is able to exercise that day. Scheduling is flexible and can be worked around the client's treatment schedule.
At FWF Wellness, three of our staff members are breast cancer survivors. Two other staff, including the owner, have been affected by cancer in close family members such as spouses and child. We are a safe space that can provide additional support to our clients coming from a place of personal experience and understanding.
